Before starting on the Working Futures Programme offered by Vauxhall Neighbourhood Council (MACTAC), Lydia Maher, aged 18 lacked confidence and was extremely anxious about entering the workplace.
Her learning plan focused on setting tasks and activities to tackle these barriers and when she felt confident enough, offered her the opportunity to complete a work experience placement at a busy doctor’s surgery. Work demands at the surgery meant she couldn’t worry about what might happen and she met the challenge brilliantly, with very positive feedback from her supervisor.
Through Working Futures, Lydia also completed Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths and undertook Prevent training.
“Taking part in the programme gave me the confidence to apply for jobs and I’ve now secured a traineeship with Santander. Without it, I’d still be at home, doing nothing.”
