Joel Hansen, aged 23, studied photography at Southport College from 2010 to 2012 and worked as a freelance photographer for a number of years.
He enrolled on the Working Futures Programme operated by Vauxhall Neighbourhood Council (MACTAC) to develop his employability skills, including support with English and ICT and to prepare him for regular work in a paid position.
“The programme offered a relaxed environment that gave me the confidence and skills to work towards my future career.”
He has now secured a job with Scottie Press which fulfils a dream to pursue photojournalism and social documentary photography and plans to re-launch the free online newspaper to the local community and further afield.
Tutor Zoe Nursaw commented:
“He’s just marvellous – he is introducing new and young ideas to reignite local interest and encourage people to take pride in their neighbourhood. He’s full of plans, including a photographic exhibition of the Liverpool area, where he can display beautiful pictures of the city and local communities in an interesting and creative way.”
